Know About Bone Cancer

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Cancer is one of the diseases that upset every person who hears about it. What more if a loved one or a friend experiences it?  I’m sure it will be very difficult for all of you to cope with it.

Bone cancer is a type of cancer that starts with the bones and radiates or spreads to other parts of the body. Usually it is detected in the very latest stage where the person experiences pain. The same thing happened to my neighbor.

Every day, my neighbor would do gardening around her house. Whenever I see her she would greet me and I would ask her about some of her flowering plants. However a few months ago, she started experiencing pain in her hips. She told me about it and I asked if she fell or bumped into something. She said she doesn’t remember bumping or even falling. She jokes that maybe it’s because she was getting old. The next day it was the same so I told her to consult a doctor. She shrugged it off and said that she will take medications to stop the pain. The pain didn’t stop so she consulted a doctor. After some tests, she told me, she was diagnosed with bone cancer.

After talking to her, I immediately researched online about the disease. Somehow, I became aware of the fact that nobody is safe from cancer. I was devastated to find out that in bone cancer, when a person feels pain in the infected area, no treatment can be done to help or stop the spread.

The disease is continuously spreading, so my neighbor’s family decided that they move to the city so she can be near the hospital. Even though I don’t see her anymore, her experience on the disease has made me aware that life is short and no one is safe from cancer.

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Can we prevent cancer? Sure we can. With just enough knowledge and healthy life style, we can do it! So learn as much as you can about this life threatening illness. Your time and effort will be well compensated when your body does not get affected by cancer.

Irregular cell division is the main culprit when it comes to cancer. Our body cells divide to help it function is normal and healthy way. But when we get affected by cancer, our cells divide in an irregular way, resulting to a growth or tumor that may be benign or malignant.

The common way to treat this is by chemotherapy which targets both the abnormal and healthy normal cells of the body. To attack this cancer, all our body cells will be attacked. Ouch! But for those cancer patients they have to endure it to get well.

So the big question is how do we prevent all this from happening? If you inherited the genes of your relative who has cancer, you are at a high risk. But you can live healthy. You can adopt a lifestyle and diet where you can get vitamins and minerals from the foods you eat while avoiding the junk which is high in fat and sodium.

We just have to be aware to help prevent it. And we have to live healthy if we want to live longer.

Treating All Forms of Cancer

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Do you sometimes wonder if there is something wrong inside your body even if you feel perfectly fine? I asked this question because I do. With this day and age when a lot of deadly disease surfacing, some of them no symptoms or few, you don’t really know. Cancer specifically, today you might be healthy but the next you may be not. It attacks unexpectedly.

All of us, when we think of having cancer, we want to yell out that we want to live longer. We wanted to treat this disease enjoy our live more. Well, for prostate cancer and other types of cancer, the most commonly done treatment is chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is where we take drugs in our body to help fight the cancer cells but unfortunately the normal cells are also attacked by the chemotherapeutic drugs. Doesn’t sound great right? I’m not so keen of doing that to my body. But what can we do?

The best we can do is to focus more in the prevention part. We can adopt a healthy lifestyle by getting enough rest and exercise. Our diets can also help prevent prostate cancer. Like tomatoes which are rich in lycopene which helps to prevent cancer. You can also include salmon in your diet. It is said to have essential oils that will help prevent certain illnesses like heart diseases and cancer. We should avoid foods like smoked, salty and even charcoal grilled foods as these bring about prostate, stomach and rectal cancer among others.

Yes cancer can be prevented. We just have to arm ourselves with enough knowledge about the disease and how to prevent it to save our lives and the lives of the people we care about.

2 Tips to Prevent Cancer

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

We all know that it is better to be safe than sorry. But we hardly give importance to our health except when we experience something bad in our bodies then we would consult a doctor. When the doctor tells you that you are sick and you have this and that, you would go “Huh?” The doctor then tells you what it means and how you acquired it and you would say “I wish I’d known it before” Does it sound familiar? You bet.

When we were younger we would think that nothing can stop us. We do things that we like and we don’t care what will happen. But times change, we grow old. Like a newly purchased book, it gets torn and tattered after a few years. Our bodies are like that. We become more susceptible to diseases and injuries when we grow older. Diseases like breast and prostate cancer.

How can we prevent breast and prostate cancer?

  • Be aware. Gain enough knowledge to protect yourself and your loved ones.
  • Practice healthy lifestyle. Eat healthy, drink lots of water, get enough exercise and rest.

Those two simple things will do wonders for your body. Eating the right foods and getting enough rest and exercise can certainly give your body vitamins and minerals to replenish your body and at the same time boost your immune system keeping you healthy and strong.

Live your life in the healthiest way possible and learn about cancer and how you can prevent it from affecting your life.

Lung Cancer Awareness

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of death in both men and women. Known causes for the said disease are smoking, pollution, exposure to radon, asbestos and other toxins.

This type of cancer has no signs or symptoms when it develops so it is hard to diagnose whether it is in its early stage or what. Sad to say, some patients die of the disease after a few signs or no signs at all manifest.

Whenever a person experiences unusual symptoms or changes in their body in a period of time, then that is the only time they will consult their doctors. When a doctor suspects if a patient has lung cancer symptoms, he or she undergoes a thorough physical exam. Here are some symptoms experienced by people suspected to have lung cancer:

  • Cough
  • Spitting up blood
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Pneumonia
  • Weakness
  • Chills
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Skin paleness or bluish discoloration

To help confirm whether a suspected patient may have lung cancer, diagnostic tools are used like x-ray, CAT and MRI scan, bronchoscopy, needle biopsy, bone scan, PET scan and endoscopy. A sputum sample can be obtained to rule out Tuberculosis and blood tests to observe for cancer indicators in the blood.
