What do we know about lung cancer?
Almost every person I ask replies that it is because of smoking. Those very people are smokers.
Funny, right? They know that smoking causes cancer, but how come they don’t stop smoking?
Everything around us tells us to quit smoking. TV commercials are being aired that smoking is bad for your health and leads to cancer. Books and magazines have articles on what will happen if you smoke. But do we see a change? Do people stop smoking?
Of course not. It is the very nature of human beings to stop things that they themselves know is bad only when they feel something unusual with their bodies. For example, a man who has smoked for 20 years will only stop when he has difficulty breathing or he experiences chest pains and his cough does not ceases.
Why do people smoke? Some claim it to be their habit or just to pass the time or release tensions. For others, peer pressure is their answer. They want to be cool or be part of a crowd through smoking.
For those thinking about smoking… Don’t even think about it. Smoking is bad for your health. For more information, you can research about smoking and its effects online or just simply read articles in the magazines or in books. As I have said, everything around us tells us to stop smoking because it is bad for your health.
For those kids who are being pressured to smoke, find other friends. Friends who will not push you into doing things that is dangerous to your health and well being. Because years from now, those people who thick that smoking is cool will be suffering from various respiratory diseases and worst of them all is lung cancer.
So think about it. Kick the bad habit and start living healthy before you regret it.
